Goffs release trimmed February catalogue

GOFFS' first auction of the year, the February Mixed Sale on February 16-18, has attracted 401 entries, down 22 per cent from last year.

As usual, the sale offers a mixture of mares, two-year-olds, short yearlings and horses in and out of training for both the Flat and jumps market.

Pure Perfection, a half-sister to the Group 1-winning sprinter King's Apostle in foal to Dylan Thomas, and Massada, the dam of multiple Listed winner Les Fazzani in foal to High Chaparral, are among the stand-out mares catalogued.

Dylan Thomas is also the sire of a colt foal out of a half-sister to Group 2 winner Housamix while Azamour is represented by a half-brother to Listed winner Dohasa. Of particular interest among the jumps-bred foals is an Alfora half-brother to high-class hurdler Lie Forrit and a Kayf Tara filly out of a sister to Bilboa.

Only 53.5 per cent of horses offered at last year's two-day renewal found new homes although that did mark an improvement on the 47 per cent recorded in 2009. The gross increased 18 per cent to €1,915,000 while the average rose marginally to €9,119.

Midnight Angel, the dam of Dark Angel, was the sale's star turn, selling for €145,000 to Con Marnane on behalf of Malih Al Basti.
