Average drops 13 per cent at OBS Fall Mixed

GIVEN the soft market of the opening session, it was no surprise to see the OBS Fall Mixed Sale in Florida end on Tuesday with declines across-the-board.

The sale, which was reduced by a session from last year, saw 301 horses sell for a total of $2,356,200. The average fell 13 per cent to $7,828 while the median dropped seven per cent drop to $4,200. However, the clearance rate increased from 53 per cent to 59 per cent.

The second day of trading - the open session - was topped by a son of Grade 1-winning sprinter D'Wildcat, who sold for $47,000 to Lucky Equine. SonShine Acres consigned the colt, who is out of the winning River Special mare Garopaba.

Baccari Bloodstock, the sale's leading buyer and purchaser of the $77,000 sale-topping son of Jazil on day one, purchased the session's most expensive mare, Babyexpectations, for $40,000.

The stakes-placed sister to Grade 3-winning sires Valid Expectations and Littleexpectations was sold in foal to Corinthian.

The final session saw 169 horses sell for a total of $888,300 and average of $5,256. The median was $3,000.
