Money arrives for Clubs in first-season market

LATE Tally-Ho stallion Red Clubs has been clipped into 9/4 by Stan James to be this year's leading first-season sire following a successful Thursday afternoon. The son of Red Ransom sired the winners of both juvenile events at Catterick on Thursday in Phoenix Clubs and Trumpet Voluntary to bring his number of winners in Britain and Ireland to 17.

Dark Angel, meanwhile, closed in on current leader Dutch Artwhen Integrity scored at Lingfield to become his 16th winner. As a result, the son of Acclamation is now available at 6/4.

Joseph Burke of Stan James said on Thursday: "Two winners for Red Clubs and one for Dark Angel today have resulted in a flurry of interest in the first-season sire market this afternoon.

"Consequently Red Clubs is now 9/4 (from 7/2) and Dark Angel is now 6/4 (from 2/1). However, Dutch Art still remains odds-on favourite at 4/5 and is the biggest looser in our book, as it currently stands.

"There may be a few twists and turns yet before the winner is decided.

"We have deleted stallions that no longer have any realistic chance of catching the leaders but will be happy to quote a price on any stallion, on request."
