Miss Work Of Art a notable first for freshman

MISS WORK OF ART showed plenty of dash to land Friday's Listed Marygate Stakes for juvenile fillies at York. In doing so, she became the first stakes winner for her first-season sire Dutch Art.

The Richard Fahey-trained Miss Work Of Art flew home to defeat long-time leader Vocational - a daughter of Exceed And Excel and Cheveley Park Stakes winner Carry On Katie - by a length, with Bubbly Ballerina (by Footstepsinthesand) in third.

Cheveley Park Stud sire Dutch Art has been represented by four winners of eight races, as well as a further five placed horses, so far this season.

The Prix Morny and Middle Park Stakes-winning son of Medicean stands at a fee of £5,000.

Miss Work Of Art was bred by Newsells Park Stud and is thefirst foal out of the Pivotal mare Lacework, a Cheveley Park-bred winner of three races between 7f to 1m2f who was bought by John Warren for 40,000gns at Tattersalls at the end of her career, with Miss Work Of Art in foal.

Lacework isa sister to Scandanavian Listed winner Entangle and is out of a winning daughter of Abernant Stakes winner Splice, who also produced Lowther Stakes winner Soar and the speedy Listed scorer Feet So Fast.

Miss Work Of Art was bought by Robin O'Ryan for £29,000 at the DBS Premier yearling sale.

Another stakes winner for Reprocolor empire
MISS WORK OF ART'S damsire Pivotal made it a memorable day for Cheveley Park Stud sires when on the mark in the Listed Swettenham Stud Fillies' Trial Stakes at Newbury.

He is the sire of the John Gosden-trained Izzi Top, who won the 1m2f Oaks trial by a head from Dancing Rain (Danehill Dancer), with Rumh (Monsun) back in third.

Izzi Top is from her owner-breeder Meon Valley Stud's outstanding family of Reprocolor. She is out of Prix de l'Opera winner Zee Zee Top, a half-sister to fellow Group 1 winners Kayf Tara and Opera House out of Reprocolor's Irish Oaks-winning daughter Colorspin.

Izzi Top is Zee Zee Top's fourth foal and second winner after Rock N Roll Ransom, a son of Red Ransom who won three races for Luca Cumani at three last year and was sold to Godolphin for 240,000gns at the Tattersalls Autumn horses in trainings sale. Rock N Roll Ransom won a competitive handicap at the Dubai Carnival in January for his new owners.

Zee Zee Top has a yearling filly by Montjeu and was barren to Dansili last year.

Bernardini boost from Theyskens' Theory
THEYSKENS' THEORY - who beat 1,000 Guineas heroine Blue Bunting by five lengths when breaking her maiden before winning the Prestige Stakes and finishing third in the Fillies' Mile last year - showed herself a cut above her rivals on her seasonal reappearance in the Listed sportingbet.com Fillies' Stakes (registered as the Michael Seely Memorial Stakes) over 1m at York.

Trained by Brian Meehan for Andrew Rosen, Theyskens' Theory is one of the first-crop flagbearers for Bernardini whose success helped convince Jerry and Ann Moss to send their superstar mare Zenyatta to be covered by the son of A.P. Indy this year.

Preakness Stakes winner Bernardini's first crop has also included Group 1 Gran Criterium winner Biondetti, Grade 1 Frizette Stakes winnerr A Z Warrior, Grade 2 Nashua and Remsen Stakes winner To Honor And Serve, Grade 1 Wood Memorial runner-up Arthur's Tale and Grade 1 Hopeful Stakes runner-up Stay Thirsty.

Bernardini stands at Darley's Jonabell Farm in Kentucky at a fee of $75,000.

Theyskens' Theory was bred by AR Enterprises out of the Summer Squall mare Heat Lightning, making her a closely related half-sister to Grade 1 Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Stevie Wonderboy, who is by another son of A.P. Indy in Stephen Got Even.

Theyskens' Theory went under the hammer at the 2009 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga yearling sale and was signed for by agent Steven W. Young at $250,000. Blue Bunting and Kentucky Oaks heroine Plum Pretty were also graduatesof that sale.
