Sakhee stayer Samuel lifts Doncaster Cup

Doncaster Cup (Group 2), Doncaster, 2m2f

SAMUEL (Sakhee - Dolores by Danehill)

Breeder: Normandie Stud

SAMUEL'S Doncaster Cup success brought a first Group win for his dam Dolores, who from four runners has produced three black-type performers, including Listed winner and Group 2-placed Duncan, and the Listed-placed Deirdre.

A daughter of Danehill, Dolores won at Listed level and was fourth to Kazzia in the 1,000 Guineas and third in the Coronation Stakes at Royal Ascot.

The six-year-old gelding is the best stayer by his sire Sakhee, whose most notable performer to date is the July Cup winner Sakhee's Secret.

Sakhee, the Arc winner of 2001, started his stud career at a fee of £20,000, but now commands just £6,000 per cover having had his fee halved this year. He is also the sire of Presvis, a Group 1 winner in Hong Kong.
