Dubawi colt for Classic heroine Gossamer
DARLEY have welcomed a high-profile arrival in a Dubawi colt out of Classic heroine Gossamer.
The colt is the seventh foal out of his dam, who is booked to go back to Dubawi this year.
Gossamer was a brilliant filly for her breeder Gerald Leigh and trainer Luca Cumani. The daughter of Sadler's Wells swept through her juvenile season unbeaten, capturing races three races including the Fillies' Mile and Prestige Stakes. At three, she emulated her brother, the Irish 2,000 Guineas and Breeders' Cup Mile winner Barathea, by tasting Irish Classic success, in her case when defeating Quarter Moon by 4 1/2 lengths in the 2002 Irish 1,000 Guineas.
Gossamer got off to a quick start at stud for Darley by producing Racing Post Trophy winner Ibn Khaldun (by Dubai Destination) in her second year. She is also the dam of minor French winner Memory Cloth (by Cape Cross) and promising three-year-old My Destination, a brother to Ibn Khaldun who was placed on his second start for Mahmood Al Zarooni last season.
Mares by Gossamer's brother Barathea have worked well with Dubawi, the cross producing nine winners in Britain and Ireland led by King Edward VII Stakes hero Monterosso and Listed winner Hunter's Light.
