Iffraaj: a filly by the leading first-crop sire topped day two in Milan

Iffraaj filly tops closing day of SGA sale

SATURDAY'S second and final day of the SGA Yearling Sale in Milan was topped by an Iffraaj filly, knocked down to Con Marnane for €38,000. A half-sister to the Listed-placed Going For Gold, she is out of Stay Hernanda, a four-time winner in Italy by Hernando, herself out of Fred Darling Stakes third Stay Low.

Marnane bought four yearlings from the higher-profile first day of the sale, and the Iffraaj filly was his only purchase on day two. She was consigned by Allevamento Carlo Pierobon on behalf on Elana Alberti.

Close behind was a Dubai Destination colt selling to Allevamento dei Sette for €36,000. He is a brother to dual winner Relazione, out of Riviere Noireby Sadler's Wells, an unraced sister to Irish Derby second Glyndebourne. His family is that of Breeders' Cup Turf winner Northern Spur and 1,000 Guineas runner-up Sundrop.

In all, 99 horses sold from 168 offered on the day (59 per cent), with an average of €10,899 and the median at €9,000. The gross of €1,079,000 brought the overall aggregate of the sale to €3,840,500 (up 15 per cent) and an average of €21,576 (up 16 per cent). The clearance improved from 61 per cent to 63 per cent.
