Dual Group 2 winner Watar retired to stud

THE dual Group 2 winner Watar has been retired to stand at Dermot Day's Moortown Stud in County Wexford.

The seven-year-old son of Marju was a high-class stayer for Freddy Head, winning the 2008 Grade 2 Qatar Prix Chaudenay at Longchamp and the 2011 Grade 2 Prix Maurice De Nieuil also at Longchamp.

In all, he won four of his 16 starts, amassing prize-money of €286,300.

The Hamdan Al Maktoum-raced Watar, was bred in France by Haras du Mezeray. His dam, Ombrie, a daughter of Zafonic, is a half-sister to the Group 1 Grand Prix de Paris winner and smart dual-purpose sire Grape Tree Road. She is also a half-sister to the Group Geoffrey Freer winner Red Route and Group 3 Queen's Vase winner Windsor Castle.
