US-trained filly given Epsom Oaks target

DREAM EMPRESS, who finished second to Stardom Bound in both the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies' and on the Experimental Free Handicap, may be heading to the England this spring for a run in the Epsom Oaks. If the plan comes to fruition she will by-pass the Kentucky Oaks.

TrainerKen McPeek told the Daily Racing News that he feels the filly, a daughter of Bernstein, does not appreciate a dirt surface (she could only finish fourth in the Grade 2 Golden Rod Stakes run on dirt at Churchill in November) and is a "big, leggy kindof filly" who is more suited to turf.

McPeek also made the case for the run by declaring that the prize-money for the Oaks is way ahead of the money available for the Kentucky fillies' race.

He intends to takeDream Empress to his farm in Kentucky and exercise her over the hills and on the rolling gallops in order to get her accustomed to differing gradients.
