THE powerful partnership ofRichard Hannon and Peter Doyle were once again on the mark at Goodwood as Canford Cliffs followed the Vintage Stakes victory of King Torus with a brilliant display to win the Sussex Stakes.

The only Group 1 winner by Rathbarry Stud's Tagula, who won the 1995 Prix Morny, Canford Cliffs was purchased for £50,000 by agent Peter Doyle as a yearling at the DBS St Leger Sale.

He is thesecond foal out of the unraced Marju mare Mrs Marsh and a half-brother to minor Swedish winner Zeeran (by Barathea). This is a family formerly cultivated by Fittocks Stud, who bred Mrs Marsh's Grade 2-placed half-sister Pina Colada.

Mrs Marsh has a yearling colt by Holy Roman Emperor, who will be offered by Jimmy Murphy's Redpender Stud at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale. Murphy purchased Mrs Marsh for 25,000 guineas at the 2008 Tattersalls December Sale carrying the Holy RomanEmperor colt.
