HURRICANE FLY (8 g Montjeu - Scandisk by Kenmare)

Bred by Agricola Del Parco in Ireland

HURRICANE Fly turned in a devastating display on Sunday to saunter away with the Irish Champion Hurdle, a day after being announced as the National Hunt hurdler of 2011 at the ITBA Awards.

The Irish-bred is the best jumper produced by Montjeu, who stands at Coolmore and is best known for his outstanding middle-distance Flat performers such as Authorized, Hurricane Run and Motivator.

But, like his sire Sadler's Wells, who sired brilliant Champion Hurdler Istabraq, Montjeu has also thrown top jumps progeny. His other stars over obstacles include Jewson Novices' Chase winner Noble Prince and dual Grade 1-winning four-year-old hurdle winner Won In The Dark.

Hurricane Fly was bred by Agricola del Parco out of the winning Kenmare mare Scandisk, making him a half-brother to triple 7f-1m winner Thunderwing, by Indian Danehill. He is bred on the same Montjeu - Kenmare cross as last season's Irish St Leger dead-heater Jukebox Jury.

FLEMENSTAR (7 g Flemensfirth - Different Dee by Beau Sher)

Bred by Donal Barnwell in Ireland

A DOMINANT 19-length victory by Flemenstar over Gift Of Dgab in this Grade 1 eventsaw the Peter Casey-trained gelding seal his position among the leading novice chasers.

He is the third Graded-winning jumper by leading jumps sire Flemensfirth this month alongside Medical Card and Knockfierna. The son of Alleged, who hit the heights as the sire of Imperial Commander, stands under the Coolmore jumps banner at the Beeches Stud for €10,000.

Flemenstar owns a varied auction history, having sold for €11,000 to Michael Tallon at Tattersalls Ireland in February 2006 and through the same ring in November that year for €40,000 to Stephen Curran. He was unsold two years later at the Goffs Land Rover Sale for €6,200 before failing to change hands for the more significant sum of €200,000 at last year's Tattersalls Ireland May Point-to-point Sale.

Out of the unraced Different Dee, Flemenstar is a brother to the Listed-placed hurdler Barafundle and a half-brother to hurdles winner December Sun. Further back, it is the family of Carvill's Hill and Samlee.
