Tiznow (pink): Winstar Farm's stallion is responsible for ten nominees
to the Triple Crown as is his stud-mate Distorted Humor

WinStar stallions strong on Triple Crown trail

WINSTAR Farm's linchpin stallions Distorted Humor and Tiznow hold the strongest chances of glory on this year's Triple Crown trail according to the list of 366 early nominees which were released on Sunday.

As expected, the early list contains many of last season's leading US two-year-olds including Lookin At Lucky (Smart Strike), She Be Wild (Offlee Wild), Blind Luck (Pollard's Vision) and Breeders' Cup Juvenile winner Vale Of York (Invincible Spirit).

The number of nominations to the Triple Crown, which encompasses the Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes and Belmont Stakes, is down nine per cent from last year. The deadline to make a late nomination at a $6,000 fee is March 27.

Distorted Humor and Tiznow, both of whom have already sired US Classic winners in Funny Cide and Da'Tara, are responsible for ten nominees apiece to the Triple Crown.

Taylor Made Farm's Unbridled's Song follows closely with nine nominees as does Maria's Mon, the sire of 2001 Kentucky Derby winner Monarchos. The latter's final crop are two-year-olds this year.

Preakness and Belmont Stakes hero Afleet Alex heads the 18 first crop sires represented with eight nominees while also featured are the progeny of European sires such as Invincible Spirit, Lucky Story, Montjeu, Oasis Dream, Oratorio, Royal Applause and Tiger Hill.

WinStar Farm is alsoheavily represented as the breeder of six nominees, the same figure as Wertheimer et Frere and Gulf Coast Farms LLC. However, they fall second to Frank Stronach's Adena Springs Farm, which is represented by eight nominees.
