Dispersals aim to entice buyers to Arqana today
SOME 267 horses aim to entice buyers to forsake their romantic engagements and instead indulge their love of the thoroughbred on Valentine's Day at the Arqana February Mixed Sale today.
For the second year, the auction will be held at Saint-Cloud rather than Deauville as the company's flagship sales complex undergoes its final phase of refurbishment. Selling starts at 11am local time.
Although only 58 per cent of horses found new homes at last year's renewal, there was some cause for encouragement with the average rising 57 per cent to €8,886 and median leaping a third to €4,000. A total of 127 horses changed hands for a total of €1,128,500 led by Blue Bresil, who sold for €76,000 to Agence FIPS.
This year's catalogue contains 48 lots from the dispersal of Haras de Bouquetot, among them two daughters of the 1996 Nunthorpe Stakes runner-up Eveningperformance. There is also a reduction in the bloodstock of Jean-Claude Laisis, who will offer a Le Fou half-sister to Grand National hero Mon Mome.
Other stand-out lots include Mawhiba, the dam of Group 3 winner Chaibia; Grade 3-winning hurdler Kruscyna, who is in foal to Saint Des Saints; the Group 1-placed Runaway, who is sold as a stallion prospect; and Diableneyev, the sire of Group 1-winning juvenile Helios Quercus.
