Dick Turpin has first mare scanned in foal

DICK Turpin has had his first mare scanned in foal, the Geiger Counter mare Saint Ann.

The mare, who was the first to be covered by the dual Group 1 winner, is owned by Gary and Lesley Middlebrook and the dam of four winners including Listed-placed Sienna Storm.

"Dick Turpin has been a big investment for the stud and we are delighted that he has proved popular and that he has taken to his new role so well," said Brian O'Rourke, managing director of the National Stud.

"This is the first mare that visited him this season so the result couldn't be better. We have some really good quality mares visiting him in his first year and we are very excited about how this will translate in to the calibre of foals he produces nextyear."

A number of major breeders have pledged their support to Dick Turpin this season, among them Juddmonte Farms, Lord and Lady Halifax, Nicholas Wrigley, Ben Sangster and Floors Stud. Among his book are the Group 3-winning juvenile Misty Eyed and Heckle, dam of the Hong Kong Group 1 winner Dim Sum.

Dick Turpin retired to stud as the winner of nine races for Richard Hannon, including the Prix Jean Prat and Premio Vittorio Di Capua. He was also second in theBritish and French editions of the 2,000 Guineas.

The son of Arakan stands for £7,000.
