Diabolical's sire Artax to stand in Brazil

TRIPLE Grade 1 winner Artax, sire of last year's Diadem Stakes runner-up Diabolical, is to stand the southern-hemisphere breeding season at Dr Adriano Quadros' Haras Henrique Waihrich in Brazil.

The Blood-Horse reports that the move is part of a three-year lease agreement between the Brazilian stud and the stallion's North American base, Diamond G Ranch in Oklahoma.

A son of Marquetry, Artax was Grade 1-placed at two and earned champion sprinter honours at four after winning the Carter Handicap, Vosburgh Stakes and Breeders' Cup Sprint.

Besides Diabolical, who was also a Grade 2 winner in his native US before being transferred to be trained by Saeed Bin Suroor, the best runners by Artax are Grade 1 Prioress Stakes heroine Friendly Michelle and Grade 1 runner-up Miss Norman.
