The colt was the first runner for his sire and fittingly, is part-owned and trained by Jim Bolger, who sent out New Approach to win eight races including five at the highest level. Following the race, Stan James cut New Approach into 11/10 favourite from 11/8 to be the season's leading first-season sire (by number of winners in Britain and Ireland up to end of the 2012 turf season).

Bolger pulled off a similar feat last year when saddling Parish Hall, the first runner by fellow Glebe House champion Teofilo, to score on his debut at Leopardstown.

The trainer said following the race: "He is very laid-back - rather unlike his father. He will step up from this, particularly over further. We shouldn´t get carried away at this stage."

Dawn Approach is one of 90 two-year-olds from the first crop of dual champion New Approach, the Derby winner of 2008. Progeny of the son of Galileo were understandably in strong demand at last year's sales, with yearlings selling for up to 500,000gns and an average of 136,789gns. He is standing this season at Dalham Hall Stud for £22,500.

Bred by Bolger, Dawn Approach is the second winner from three runners out of Hymn Of The Dawn, a placed Phone Trick half-sister to the Group 1-placed Canadian miler Galantas.

Hymn Of The Dawn has a yearling sister to the winner.
