Deerhound killed in fire

DERHOUND, sire of 1997 Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies heroine Countess Diana, is one of 12 horses reported to have died in a fire at Velocity Farms in Louisiana.

A son of Danzig, Deerhound was a brother to sires Foxhound and Wolfhound from the illustrious family of A.P. Indy and Duke Of Marmalade.

Shanna Berry, the stud's co-owner, reported thatfour of the farm's other stallions, Banderas, El Lobo, Filmore and Wild Wildcat, had also perished in the fire.

The other three stallions housed at Velocity farms were turned out in the paddocks and were unharmed. The death toll included quarter horses, paint horses and fresians.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
