JRHA catalogues 497 horses for Select Sale

THE Japan Racing Horse Association has catalogued 161 yearlings and 336 foals for their Select Sale at the Northern Horse Park on the island of Hokkaido on July 13-15.

Last season's Japanese champion sire Agnes Tachyon stole the show at the 2008 yearling auction thanks to a son out of Blue Avenue who was knocked down to Riichi Kondo for a record session price of 245,000,000yen (£1,620,547/€1,846,905).

The son of Sunday Silence is strongly represented this time aroundwith 16 yearlings and 29 foals catalogued.

Rock Of Gibraltar is repsonsible for seven yearlings including a half-brother to Japanese Horse of the Year Admire Moon, himself the sire of 13 foal entries.

Daiwa Major, a champion three-parts brother to the outstanding Daiwa Scarlet, leads the way numerically with 32 first crop foals entered including a three-parts brother to Deep Impact.

He holds a slender edge over Deep Impact, whose 31 entries contain a colt out of Prix Maurice de Gheest winner May Ball.

Other notable entries include a Ghostzapper colt out of Grade 1 winner Island Fashion - who topped this year's Keeneland January Sale at $950,000 - and a Manduro colt out of Criterium de Saint-Cloud winner Paita. The catalogue also contains entries by Redoute's Choice and Kyllachy.

Missing from the vendors list this year is Darley Japan. Sheikh Mohammed's operation have been prominent vendors at this sale since 2004.

Print versions of the catalogue will be available on June 26.
