Debut winner for Excellent Art nets bonus

BARRY Hills' final two-year-old runner at Newbury, Gray Pearl, suggested she could be yet another potentially smart filly by first-season sire Excellent Art with a fluent winning display in division two of the 6f maiden at Newbury on Saturday.

In the process, the debutante landed her owner, Raymond Mould, a £10,000 Racing Post Yearling Bonus. She is the second bonus winner of 2011 sent out by the Hills yard following Haydock scorer Mezmaar.

Purchased by Larry Stratton for 72,000gns as a foal, Gray Pearl was snapped up by Anthony Stroud on behalf of Mould for 90,000gns out of the Church View Stables consignment at Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Sale. Bred by T E Pocock, she is a half-sister to classy German sprinter Electric Beat and out of Divine Grace, an unplaced daughter of Definite Article.

A yearling sister to Gray Pearl is catalogued as lot 586 in Book 2 of the Tattersalls October Sale.

Coolmore stallion Excellent Art is the sire of ten winners in Britain and Ireland to date including Group 3 heroine Experience. The son of Pivotal is also the sire of recent French Listed winner Nimohe.
