Debut win in France for Darley-bred Monsun colt

MONTGOLFIER was an eyecatching winner on his debut at Longchamp  for his sire Monsun and breeder Darley.

The three-year-old is out of the Nashwan mare Velvet Lady, a half-sister to Godolphin's Dubai World Cup winner Moon Ballad. Another Godolphin Group 1 winner features in the pedigree as their dam Velvet Moon is a half-sister to Italian Derby winner Central Park.

The fillies' equivalent race at Longchamp was won by the Juddmonte-bred Announce, a daughter of Selkirk out of the Gone West mare Hachita, whose dam Choice Spirit was a black-type performer in France and is a half-sister to Zafonic and Zamindar.

Medicean's fine start to the season continued on the same card with the Listed victory of his daughter Via Medici in the Prix de Lilas over a mile.

Meanwhile, Dalghar, an Aga Khan-bred  half-brother by Anabaa to Daylami and Dalakhani, picked up his first black type victory on turf in the Group 3 Prix du Palais-Royal over seven furlongs. He had previously won a Deauville, all-weather Listed race last December.
