Death of noted Kentucky vet Arnold Pessin

ARNOLD G. Pessin, a Kentucky veterinarian who stood successful sire Olden Times, has died at the age of 83.

Pessin graduated from Cornell University and Texas A and M College of Veterinary Medicine.

Aside from his work as a veterinarian, Pessin also established the 500-acre Winchester Farm, where he stood successful sire Olden Times. The son of Relic, whose 17 wins included the 1964 Metropolitan Handicap, sired the 1982 champion two-year-old colt Roving Boy during his long innings at stud.

Pessin also built the Kentucky Training Centre, which served as the firstKentucky site for Fasig-Tipton Sales, and Dueling Grounds Race Track.

He is survived by his former wife Frances, son Neil and daughters Pam, Holly, and Jan.
