Death of Guineas runner-up Heart Of Joy

HEART OF Joy, who ran Salsabil to three-quarters of a length when second in the 1990 1,000 Guineas for Sir Michael Stoute, has died at Golden Eagle Farm in California at the age of 25.

The daughter of Lypheor was successful in two races for Stoute, including the Group 3 Nell Gywn Stakes, and was placed in British and Irish 1,000 Guineas as well as the Coronation Stakes.

Owner John C. Mabee later campaigned the filly in the US with Gary Jones, for whom she won the 1993 Grade 2 Palomar Handicap and ran second in the 1993 Grade 1 Ramona Handicap.

Four of the mare's eight runners are winners led by her first foal, the high-class Japanese sprinter Meiner Love (by Seeking The Gold). She is also the granddam of Listed winners Red Diadem and Peppi Knows.

Out of the Secretariat mare Mythographer, Heart Of Joy was a half--sister to minor American stakes winner Ataentsic, later the dam of Grade 2 scorer Unbridled Energy.
