DBS: Hillen and Ryan dominate early trade

STEPHEN Hillen and Kevin Ryan dominated the early hours of the DBS Breeze-up Sale on Monday whensecuring the first two lots to hit six-figures.

The star turn was a £120,000 colt from the first-crop of American Grade 1-winning sprinter Street Boss, a Darley-based son of Street Cry who was also responsible for a colt that sold for 280,000gns at the Tattersalls Craven Breeze-up Sale last week.

Consigned by Thomond O'Mara's Knockanglass Stables, the colt cost TR Bloodstock just $22,000 at last year's Keeneland September Sale. He is the fifth foal out ofthe unraced Meadowlake mare Merit and a half-brother to three minor winners.

"I thought he was the standout on his breeze and it was particularly impressive to do it on that surface when he'd want top of the ground," said Ryan.

"He was an attractive individual as well and has been bought for Frank Gillespie. He's the third one we've got and we've been able to get the horses we wanted here, which is good for us."

Minutes earlier, Hillen and Ryan saw off David Redvers for an Avonbridge half-brother to smart two-year-old Bogart (53) at £100,000.

The colt, who is the second foal out of minor winner Lauren Louise, is set to join his half-brother, whom Ryan trained to win last year's Listed Totepool Two-year-old Trophy.

"Obviously Kevin had Bogart and we saw this horse in Ireland and like him before the sale," said Hillen. "He then did a breeze in a good time and came highly recommended. He is for Matt Morgan, who has a couple of horses with Kevin already."

The colt's sale continued a productive few days for last week's leading Tattersalls Craven vendor Willie Browne, who paid 53,000gns for the colt at Book 3 of last year's Tattersalls October Sale.
