Third Grade 1 winner for exciting War Front

OUTSIDER Data Link came with a late run to defeat last year's Breeders' Cup Mile runner-up Turallure and win Friday's Grade 1 Maker's 46 Mile Stakes on the Keeneland turf.

Data Link, who was making his first start in Grade 1 company, becomes the third top-flight winner to emerge from the first two crops of exciting young Kentucky stallion War Front.

War Front had his stud fee at Claiborne Farm quadrupled from $15,000 to $60,000 this year after he supplied Grade 1 winners Summer Soiree (DelMar Oaks) and The Factor (Malibu Stakes, Pat O'Brien Stakes). He has also been represented by Grade 2 scorers Soldat and State Of Play.

War Front is a son of Danzig who won the Grade 2 Alfred G Vanderbilt Handicap over 6f on dirt and also finished second in the Grade 1 Forego and Vosburgh Stakes. He is a half-brother to Graded winners Ecclesiastic and Teammate.

Four-year-old Data Link hails from War Front's first crop. A homebred for Stuart Janney III, the colt is out of the Listed-placed Known Fact mare Database. He is the second Grade 1 winner this year from his recent family, as Database is a sister to the dam of February's Donn Handicap winner Hymn Book.

Database and Vespers are out of a granddaughter of Begum, a mare born in 1981 at Alice Chandler's Mill Ridge Farm with two growths instead of eyes. Instead of putting down the disadvantaged foal who could never race, Chandler opted to keep the well-bred Alydar filly in a specially adapted paddock for breeding.
