Mr Thriller right gets the better of Starluck Haydock 21.11.09A brother to Mr Thriller (right) lines up in the Musselburgh bumper   PICTURE: JOHN GROSSICK

Ogden bumper runner has varied pedigree

MUSSELBURGH today sees the introduction of an interestingly bred runner in Dark Shadow, who runs in the bumper. Robert Ogden's homebred is by Royal Applause, a Group 1-winning sprinter whose progeny tend to inherit his speed.

Dark Shadow's dam, Royal York, brings stamina to the pedigree. She is a daughter of Bustino who won over 1m2f and 1m4f on the Flat and over 2m-3m over obstacles. The family has enjoyed plenty of success under both codes.

Royal York is a half-sister to the high-class 2m chaser Squire Silk, and she produced Flying Wanda, who was second in the Group 3 Lancashire Oaks and later tried over hurdles.

Another pedigree of note is that of The Tracey Shuffle, a brother to the smart jumper Mr Thriller. By Kapgarde out of Gaspaisie, the gelding was bred at Cotley Hill Stud near Warminster and is a half-brother to high-class hurdler and Cheltenham Festival winner Gaspara.
