Acclamation dominates Railway Stakes finish

RATHBARRY Stud stallion Acclamation's current crop of two-year-olds, bred in the season immediately after he was crowned champion first-season sire, continues to impress.

So far the crop has yielded 14 individual winners and it has a fine flagbearer in the shape of LilbourneLad, the impressive winner of the Listed Rochestown Stakes last time out and the determined winner of the Group 2 Dubai Duty Free Railway Stakes at the Curragh on Sunday.

The Richard Hannon-trained Lilbourne Lad kept on well under Richard Hughes to repel the challenge of Tough As Nails, denying the runner-up's first-season sire Dark Angel - the star attraction of Acclamation's first crop - a first Group-racewinner.

Saturday's Listed Empress Stakes saw the same father and son sire team provide the first two home, as Lily's Angel (Dark Angel) beat Pearl Diva (Acclamation).

Lilbourne Lad was bred by Swordlestown Little out of the winning Green Desert mare Sogno Verde, making him a half-brother to Bobbyscot, a 7f winner at two and runner-up in the Group 3 Gallinule Stakes over 1m2f at three.

Sogno Verde is a half-sister to Pugin, a Listed winner over 1m2f and 1m6f, and Chartres, a Listed winner over 1m4f, out of Irish Oaks third Gothic Dream, herself a daughter of Irish St Leger winner Dark Lomond.

Lilbourne Lad was purchased by Epona Bloodstock from the consignment of Swordlestown Little at the 2009 Goffs Foal Sale for €75,000. Hannon's regular talent scout Peter Doyle picked him up for £80,000 at the DBS Premier Yearling Sale.

Acclamation's fee this year is €15,000, while Dark Angel stands at Morristown Lattin Stud at a fee of €7,000.
