Strategic Prince gets
off the mark in Italy

STRATEGIC Prince became the latest first-season sire to get off the mark when Jackal Prince scored by a head in a 5 1/2f debutantes race at Siracusa in Italy on Saturday.

Bred by Norman Ormiston in Ireland, Jackal Prince is the second foal and first winner out of Someca Star, a Soviet Star sister to the Listed-placed Bazroy. Further back, it is the family of this season's outstanding hurdler Hurricane Fly.

Trainer Agostino Affe paid just €3,000 for Jackal Prince at last year's Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale.

Strategic Prince was a high-class andprecocious two-year-old for Paul Cole, winning three races including the Group 2 July Stakes at Newmarket and Group 2 Vintage Stakes at Goodwood. He was also third behind Teofilo and Holy Roman Emperor in the Dewhurst Stakes.

The son of Dansili has 102 two-year-olds bred off a fee of €9,000  to represent him this year. He is standing the current season at Coolmore in Ireland for €4,000.
