French stud post for Listed winner Pirateer

HARAS de Talma in north-east France, best known for sport horse breeding, has purchased Listed winner Pirateer from Ballydoyle as a thoroughbred stallion to offer to its patrons.

Pirateer, trained by Aidan O'Brien, took the notable scalp of stablemate and subsequent Irish Derby hero Treasure Beach when he won a Listowel 1m maiden at two.

The son of Danehill Dancer also won a Gowran Park nursery, and landed the Listed Celebration Stakes at the Curragh on his sole start at three last year. A fractured pastern ended his racing career.

Bred by Churchtown House Stud out of the winning Shirley Heights mare Wannabe, Pirateer is a three-parts brother to Cheveley Park Stakes heroine Wannabe Grand and a half-brother to Galtres Stakes winner Wannabe Posh.

John Magnier purchased him for €180,000 at the 2009 Goffs Orby yearling sale.

Pirateer will stand at a fee of €1,000 at the Haras de Talma this year.
