Dubawi edges nearer first-season sire record

DUBAWI'S tally of first crop winners increased by one to 33 when Makfi won the Prix du Loing at Fontainebleau on Friday.

The Mikel Delzangles-trained colt took the 7f  contest on his debut by one and a half lengths and was ridden by Maxime Guyon.

The winner puts him just two away from equalling the record set by Invincible Spirit in 2006 for the number of individual winners in Europe achieved by a first-season sire.
Makfi was bred by Shadwell Estates and is the first foal out of the unraced Green Desert mare Dhelaal. She is a half-sister to champion two-year-old Alhaarth, along with Green Pola who won a Group 3 as a juvenile in France.

Her grand-dam Green Valley bred Green Dancer and his brother Val Danseur, a Group 2 winner in the US. Group 1 winners Authorized and Quijano also hail from the family.

Dubawi, who stands under the Darley banner at Dalham Hall Stud in Newmarket, has had his fee increased from £15,000 to £20,000 for 2010.
