Singspiel's stud career may be at an end

THE stud career of Singspiel, a Darley stallion since 1998, may be at an end because of his ongoing fertility problems.

The multiple Group 1-winning son of In The Wings was first diagnosed with problemsin March, when it was hoped his fall in fertility would prove to be temporary.

But his fertility has not improved and Darley's director of stallion Sam Bullard said: "Singspiel has been covering mares without any satisfactory results.

"We will need to be able to give breeders some positive news before the start of next season if we are to market him to them and at the moment we don't have any positive news."

Singspiel won four Group/Grade 1 races – the Canadian International, Japan Cup, Coronation Cup and Juddmonte International Stakes – in a stellar racing career, which also included a Dubai World Cup victory before that race was given Group 1 status.

His best progeny include Dubai World Cup winner Moon Ballad and Ascot Gold Cup winner Papineau.

In 2009 he sired three individual top-flight winners in Dar Re Mi, Eastern Anthem and Hibaayeb.
