Group 2 quinella for Halling at Saint-Cloud

Tuesday: Saint-Cloud; Prix Greffulhe (Gr2)

CUTLASS BAY (c Halling - Dunnes River by Danzig)

DARLEY'S Halling notched his 12th Group 2 winner in some style on Tuesday when Cutlass Bay overcame stable companion Cavalryman, another son of Halling, to take the Prix Greffulhe under Frankie Dettori.

The Group 2 success was the third straight win for the Andre Fabre-trained colt, who races as a homebred for Sheikh Mohammed.

Conceived during Halling's time at the Emirates Stud in the UAE, Cutlass Bay is a brother to the King Edward VII Stakes winner Boscobel and ahalf-brother to US Listed winner Crested, a gelded son of Fantastic Light.

His dam, Dunnes River, made it to the track only once for Godolphin but she left a favourable impression, showing an impressive turn of foot to take a Goodwoodmaiden by a neck.

However, her half-brother, Bayeux, could not have been any tougher, progressing from handicapper to Grade 1-performing miler during four seasons.

They are two of five winners out of the Group 2 Prix Eclipse Stakes winner Elizabeth Bay, who also ran second to  Gold Splash in the Group 1 Coronation Stakes for the Sheikh Mohammed-Fabre combination.

Dunnes River has a two-year-old brother to Cutlass Bay named Dover Castle.

After spending three seasons in Dubai, Halling returned to stand at Dalham Hall Stud in 2008, where he currently commands a fee of £8,000.

From ten crops of racing age, the multiple Group 1-winning son ofDiesis is the sire of 18 Group/Graded winners including last season's Melbourne Cup runner-up Bauer and 2,000 Guineas third Norse Dancer.
