Cape Cross has a
way with the ladies

CAPE CROSS's fine record with fillies was maintained when Crystal Capella won the inaugural running of the Pride Stakes-Gr2 at Newmarket on Saturday.

The Sir Michael Stoute-trained filly, a previous dual winner at Listed level, is the first foal out of Crystal Star whose Tiger Hill yearling fetched 35,000gns at Tattersalls earlier in theweek.

Crystal Star was unbeaten in two starts as a juvenile,  including at Listed level, and was a one-time winter ante-post  fancy for the fillies' Classics. That plan did not work out, though she did finish second in the Fred Darling Stakes. Her dam is Crystal Cavern, a half-sister to Rose Gypsy, winner of the Poule d'Essai des Pouliches-Gr1 for Aiden O'Brien.

Cape Cross's other stakes winning fillies include the New Zealand-bred fillies Gaze and Seachange, and the northern hemisphere fillies Ouija Board and Rising Cross.
