Barberini strikes for dam of Air Crew at Fasig

ITALIAN agent Federico Barberini made his presence felt at Monday's Fasig-Tipton Midlantic December Mixed Sale in Maryland when going to $95,000 for the day's dearest mare, Crystal Bull.

The 11-year-old daughter of Holy Bull is the dam of this season's smart Italian two-year-old Air Crew, who ran third in the Group 3 Premio Primi Passi on his penultimate start. Crystal Bull was sold in foal that colt's sire Pollard's Vision.

Crystal Bull was by far the stand out lot of a depressed day at Fasig-Tipton as it took a bid of just $38,000 from the Maryland-based Country Life Farms to secure the day's second most expensive lot, Fifteen Moons. The daughter of Malibu Moon is a half-sister to Grade 1 winner Hookedonthefeelin.

Fasig-Tipton reported that 169 horses sold for a total of $776,300, which represented a decline of 34 per cent. The average tumbled 27 per cent to $4,593 while the $2,000 median was down a third from last year.
