Antonius Pius (right) beats Spanish Ace to win the Railway Stakes in 2003

First winner for Antonius Pius in Australia

COOLMORE shuttle stallion Antonius Pius was represented by his first winner on Saturday, when his son Big Tony won a 5f maiden at Eagle Farm in Australia on his second start.

Big Tony was purchased for A$40,000 at the 2008 Magic Millions Gold Coast sale, and is trained by Trevor Miller. He was also the first runner for his sire.

A son of Danzig, Antonius Pius is the first foal of his Yorkshire Oaks-winning dam, Catchascatchcan. He was purchased by Demi O'Byrne for $1.5m as a yearling at Keeneland in 2002.

Trained by Aidan O'Brien, he subsequently won the Railway Stakes at two, and reached the places in the St. James's Palace Sakes, the Prix du Moulin and the Breeders' Cup Mile at three.

His first northern-hemisphere crop will be two-year-olds next year.
