Coolmore buys Hansen to stand in Kentucky

COOLMORE has purchased last season's Breeders' Cup Juvenile and US champion two-year-old Hansen to stand at its Ashford Stud in Kentucky.

Hansen was trained by Michael Maker for owner-breeder Dr Kendall Hansen to win his maiden and the Kentucky Cup Juvenile at Turfway Park by wide margins.

He then defeated Group/Grade 1 winners Union Rags, Creative Cause, Dullahan, Take Charge Indy and Crusade to land a competitive renewal of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile at Churchill Downs.

This season at three Hansen won the Grade 3 Iowa Derby by ten lengths and the Grade 3 Gotham Stakes by three lengths, plus he finished second to Dullahan in the Grade 1 Bluegrass Stakes.

Hansen is among nine Grade 1 winners sired by the Pulpit stallion Tapit. Among the others is Saturday's Breeders' Cup Mile winner Tapizar.

Tapit nearly supplied back-t0-back winners of the Breeders' Cup Juvenile when his son He's Had Enough went down by just a head to Shanghai Bobby in the race on Saturday.

Hansen is out of the winning Sir Cat mare Stormy Sunday.

Ashford Stud director of sales Charlie O'Connor said: "Tapit has already proven himself a remarkable stallion in his relatively short career to date and we're delighted to have secured his best son Hansen, who is a very good looking horse.

"Together with Uncle Mo and Lookin At Lucky we now have the last three Eclipse Award-winning juveniles here at Ashford on a roster that also includes 2011 champion sires Giant's Causeway and Scat Daddy."
