Cool Coal Man retired to stud in Florida

GRADE 2 Fountain of Youth Stakes winner Cool Coal Man will enter stud at Hartley DeRenzo Thoroughbreds in Florida this year.

The six-year-old son of Mineshaft was a useful 1m-1m2f dirt horse at three to five, also finishing third to Big Brown in the 2008 Haskell Invitational and signing off hiscareer with a fourth to Dakota Phone in November's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.

Bred by a partnership including Will Farish, Cool Coal Man is a half-brother to Grade 2-placed Kathlees Reel out of the winning Rubiano mare Coral Sea.

Hartley DeRenzo director of stallions Rebecca Hayden said:   "Not only is Cool Coal Man nearly a millionaire, being a son of Mineshaft and a grandson of A.P. Indy, this is a sire line that is proving over and over to be the sire of sires.

"He is inbred 3x4 to Mr. Prospector, a Florida foundation sire, his second dam is a full sister to dual champion Northernette, also champion racehorse and sire Storm Bird."

Cool Coal Man's stud fee has been set at $5,000.
