TURBULENT DESCENT (4 f Congrats - Roger's Sue by Forestry)

Bred by Ocala Stud

TURBULENT Descent's first start for the Coolmore triumvirate of Mrs John Magnier, Michael Tabor and Derrick Smith was a winning one on Friday as the four-year-old daughter of Congrats held off Derwin's Star to take the Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes for Todd Pletcher.

As a result, the filly can now boast Grade 1 wins at two, three and four years.

Formerly trained by Michael Puype on behalf of Blinkers On Racing Stable, Turbulent Descent was purchased privately by Coolmore following her win in the Desert Stormer Handicap earlier this year and turned over to Pletcher.

She continues another strong year for Vinery's Congrats, who has swfitly risen through the ranks to become one of Kentucky's premier stallions. The son of A P Indy, who is a brother to the useful sire Flatter, started his stud career for $12,500 in Florida at Cloverleaf Farms following a career in which he won the Grade 2 San Pasqual Handicap and was Grade 1-placed. However, by the time his first crop hit the track in 2010, he was available for just $4,500 at Vinery's base in Florida.

Out of that first crop emerged Turbulent Descent as well as the Grade 1 Alcibiades Stakes winner Wickedly Perfect and Grade 1-placed pair I'm Steppin It Up and Jordy Y to ensure he was the leading American first season sire of 2010. Consequently, Congrats was moved to Kentucky in 2011 and stood the past season at Vinery for $35,000.

Turbulent Descent is his second Grade 1 winner of the year following the recent Prioress Stakes heroine Emma's Encore.

A $160,000 purchase by Blinkers On Racing Stable at the OBS Spring Two-Year-Olds in Training Sale in Florida, Turbulent Descent is a half-sister to three winners and out of a granddaughter of triple Grade 1 winner Stunning. She descends from influential mare Square Angel, also the ancestress of Swain, Fantastic Light, Northern Afleet and Music Show.

Roger's Sue has a colt foal by Medagalia d'Oro which sold for the equivalent of $803,368 at this year's JRHA Select Foal Sale in Japan.
