Komaite's son Punjabi wins Fighting Fifth

KOMAITE, more usually known for producing 5f sprinters, is sire of Saturday's rearranged Grade 1 Fighting Fifth Hurdle winner, Punjabi.

The adaptable Nicky Henderson-trained runner has won his last four starts - once  over hurdles in Ireland when winning the ACC Bank Champion Hurdle at Punchestown in April, twice on the Flat when successful in handicaps in May over 1m2f and1m4f at Newmarket and Sandown before his success in the Fighting Fifth run at Wetherby.

Prior to this four-time unbeaten run he finished third in the Champion Hurdle behind Katchit and Osana. Former Champion Hurdler Sublimity finished fourth then and was again beaten by Punjabi on Saturday.

Punjabi's dam Competa is a 1999 unraced daughter of Hernando. She has produced four foals and two winners, Punjabi and a one-time winning sister, Kompete. She has a yearling colt by Olden Times and a filly foal by Iceman.

Punjabi was bred by Captain Wilson, a big supporter of Komaite.
