Commands sets Australian record

DARLEY'S Commands has set an Australian record for mostindividual winners in a season, beating the previous mark held by Coolmore's Encosta De Lago.

The pair have duelled for the honour of being the leading sire by individual winners for the past four seasons.

Encosta De Lago won twice before Commands captured the title for the first time with 143 individual winners in 2009-10.

He had been runner-up to Encosta de Lago in 2007-08 and 2008-09. Encosta set the previous record of 147 wins in 2008-09.

Commands set the new record of 148 on July 22 when he sired two new winners, Commanding Lass and Andthebandplayedon, at Ipswich in Queensland.

The Brett Sturgess-trained three-year-old filly Commanding Lass is out of the Rivotous mare Rivetting Lass and is
a half-sister to the nine-time winner De Riguer.

Rivetting Lass has four winners from four foals to race.

The Woodside Park-bred Andthebandplayedon is from the Palace Music mare Orchestrations and is a three-quarter brother to the stakes performer Deafen from the family of Group 1 winners Skilled and Railings.

Commands, a Group 1-placed son of Danehill who formerly shuttled to Haras du Quesnay in France, is the sire of 38 stakes winners and has sired ten Australian stakes winners this season including the Group 1 winner Erewhon, Group 2 winner Soul and stakes-winning fillies and mares Palomares, Kanzan and Brasileira.

He has steadily been increasing his status as a top five sire in Australia, having sired Group 1 winners in each of his last three seasons.

He is set to stand the upcoming southern hemisphere season at Darley's Kelvinside base in New South Wales for A$66,000.
