Grade 1-placed Rodman
RODMAN, a Graded stakes winner and Grade 1-placed son of leading US sire Malibu Moon, has been acquired byWoodford Thoroughbreds and will stand at Cloverleaf Farms in Florida for the 2012 breeding season.
Rodman was trained by Michael Hushion to win six of his 18 starts, including an impressive maiden score on his three-year-old debut at Aqueduct.
He went on to win in the Grade 3 Queens County Handicap at Aqueduct as a four-year-old, and he developed into one of the leading handicap horses inNew York last year
Last year Rodman won the Irish Tower Stakes at Aqueduct before finishing secondto Tizway in the Grade 1 Met Mile. He also finished placed in the Suburban Handicap behind Grade 1 winners Flat Out and Hymn Book. He earned $416,152.
By Malibu Moon, Rodman hails from the Affirmed mare Crystal Gem, a half-sister to multiple stakes winners and stakes producers.
He will stand at a fee of $2,500 alongside leading Florida sire Repent and fellow new stallion Crown of Thorns at CloverLeaf.
"Rodman is a late-but-welcome addition to Cloverleaf's growing stallion roster," said Matt Lyons, general manager of Woodford and CloverLeaf.
"When we heard about his retirement we had to have him. Breeders really turned out in numbers this past Saturday to see him at the farm for the first time, and he was very well received.
"Rodman had brilliance as a racehorse, and his sire Malibu Moon is emerging as one of the most influential sons from the A.P. Indy sire line - a sire line that has produced top grandsons of A.P. Indy at stud such as Tapit and Sky Mesa," he added.
