Missvinski tops Keeneland at $400k

MISSVINKSI, winner of the Listed Prix Prix Zeddaan and runner-up in the 2007 Prix d'Astarte, topped a quiet fourth session of the Keeneland January Sale in Kentucky on Thursday when selling for $400,000.

Coolmore representative Aisling Duignan signed the ticket for the daughter of Stravinsky, who is from the family of Derby runner-up Cacoethes and was a bargain $8,000 weanling purchase. She was offered by Michael C. Byrne as agent.

However, Missvinski apart, the day's trading was tough for vendors, producing significant declines across-the-board led by the median which dropped 37.5 per cent to $5,000. The aggregate fell 35 per cent to $2,245,300 while the average dropped 22 per cent to $11,283.

It was a sharp drop to the second dearest horsesold,Close Alliance, who commanded a $55,000 bid from the Russian-based Raut Bloodstock Agency. The four-year-old son of Gone West was highly tried early last season by John Gosden following a debut win at Great Leighs and most recently ran third in an allowance race at Saratoga for Bobby Frankel. He was sold by Mill Ridge Sales as a racing or stallion prospect.
