Classic hero Golan sold to stand in Russia

GOLAN has been sold to stand in Russia after ten years standing under the Flat and then National Hunt banners at Coolmore.

Bred and raced by Ballymacoll Stud and trained by Sir Michael Stoute, Golan won the 2,000 Guineas and finished runner-up to Galileo in the Derby at three. He was also third in the Irish Derby and fourth in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe that season.

At four he beat Nayef to win the King George but finished behind that rival when second in the International Stakes.

The best Flat performers sired by Golan, a 15-year-old son of Spectrum, are the New Zealand-bred four-time Hong Kong Group 1 winner Beauty Flash and the Michael Bell-trained dual Group 3 winner Regime.

His progeny have been in the headlines over jumps, with his daughter She Ranks me winning two Listed novice hurdles last month, and his son Golantilla easily winning a Cork bumper this month before being sold privately for a reported €375,000 this week.
