Claiborne Farm announces 2009 fees
Claiborne Farm has announced its stud fees for the 2009 breeding season. In light of the economic downturn, the fees for most of its stallions have either been reduced or will stay the same.
Nominations to Pulpit ($80,000), Arch ($25,000), War Front ($12,500), During ($5,000) and Flatter ($5,000) remain unchanged from 2008.
Those whose fees have been adjusted downwards are Eddington ($20,000 to $15,000), First Samurai ($40,000 to $30,000), Out Of Place ($7,500 to $5,000), Political Force ($15,000 to $12,500) and Strong Hope ($30,000 to $15,000).
Horse Greeley, who is new to the Claiborne roster for 2009,will stand at $7,500. Fees for Horse Chestnut and the farm's headline stallion Seeking The Gold have yet to be announced.
Claiborne spokesman Bernie Sams commented on the fee changes: "This is certainly not a reflection on these young stallions. I have great confidence in them - they have been very well received and have positive sales results. The fees were lowered in an effort to give breeders added value in the face of uncertain market conditions."
