Cigar Mile winner Jersey Town to Darby Dan

JERSEY TOWN, winner of the 2010 Grade 1 Cigar Mile, will be retired to Darby Dan Farm in Kentucky after making a repeat bid in the race later this month.

A six-year-old son of Speightstown, Jersey Town is trained by Barclay Tagg for owner-breeder Charles E Fipke.

He also won this year's Grade 2 Kelso Handicap and was fifth to Tapizar in this month's Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile.

“Jersey Town is an extremely fast and high-class miler by one of the hottest stallions around in Speightstown,” said Darby Dan owner John Phillips.

“It's pretty incredible how he's been able to maintain his soundness and form at the highest level of racing, which is a tribute to Chuck Fipke's programme. We've been proud to stand Grade 1 colts Perfect Soul and Tale of Ekati for Chuck, and we're excited about the opportunity to stand Jersey Town in 2013.”

Jersey Town, who is out of the Grade 1-winning Belong To Me mare Jersey Girl, will stand at a fee of $10,000.
