A COLT by Choisir topped the 2012 Magic Millions QTIS Yearling Sale at the Gold Coast on Monday when sold for A$150,000 (£99,902/€120,518).

At the Wire Thoroughbreds secured the colt during the second and final session.

The colt is the fourth living foal of a Brisbane winning Mukaddamah half sister to Group 1 winners Seachange and Keepa Cruisin.

At the Wire's Rodney Holt was delighted to have snared his top pick of the auction.

"He's a really nice horse with a huge pedigree," Holt said.

"For a November foal he's very forward. He's correct and strong and he will join the stables of Jason McLachlan on the Sunshine Coast."

"Jason trains the half sister Redsyn and I am a big fan of Seachange who is high up in his pedigree."

A Bernardini-Citichy colt went to the partnership of Cameron Cooke and Tony Gollan for A$100,000.

The underbidder wastrainer Pat Duff, the man who trained the colt's Magic Millions 3YO Trophy winning half brother Heart of the Citi.

The momentum of yesterday's first session continued as the sale gross went past A$7 million.

The gross was up over A$300,000 on last year when 100 more yearlings were catalogued.

The average price settled at A$22,142 (£14,747/€17,790), up 15 per cent on last year's figure.

The clearance rate of77 per cent compares favourably with last year's 71 per cent.

Magic Millions Managing Director Vin Cox was pleased to see the figures increase strongly on the 2011 auction.

"It's been a very good sale by all measures," Cox said. "To see the average, gross and clearance all rise is very pleasing."
