Chesham Stakes winner for Mount Nelson
A COMFORTABLE two-and-a-half-length success for the Paul Cole-trained Berkshire in the Listed Chesham Stakes at Royal Ascot on Saturday will be met with delight by his breeders Newsells Park Stud.
The strapping colt finished third on his racecourse debut and on this evidence further progression looks likely for the Sultan Ahmad Shah-owned colt.
Berkshire is the fourth stakes winner for Eclipse winner and sophomore sire Mount Nelson, a son of Rock Of Gibraltar who stands at Newsells Park Stud.
Mount Nelson, who stands at a fee of £6,000, is also the sire of Purr Along, the winner of the Group 3 Prix du Calvados last year and a creditable eighth in the Coronation Stakes on Friday.
Berkshire is the fifth foal out of the Dr Devious mare Kinnaird, who carried the silks of late Newsells founder Klaus Jacobs' wife Renata to win the Prix de l'Opera.
Kinnaird, a half-sister to Group 3 winner Mickdaam, has a filly foal at foot by Cacique.
Berkshire was bought by Cole for 60,000gns at Book 2 of the Tattersalls October yearling sale.
