Chaille-Chaille to train €70k Arqana top lot

YEARLING colt Bonita Du Berlais topped the final session of Arqana's Autumn Sale yesterday, after Agence FIPS went to €70,000 to secure the half-brother to leading hurdler Nikita Du Berlais.

A son of Trempolino from Haras de Grandcamp, the March-born colt was knocked down to Richard Corveller, who said: "We've bought him for a partnership which includes Arnaud Chaille-Chaille, who will eventually train him.  "He is a nice colt and very athletic, with a unique pedigree that was worth paying for."

A brother to Paul Nicholls' recent hurdling recruit Irish Saint made €52,000 when selling to Guy Cherel. The yearling is by Saint Des Saints and comes from the family of promising young stallion Bonbon Rose.

Fresh from supplying the first two home in the Crystal Cup at Compiegne last week, Nick Williams reinvested when signing for After Du Berlais for €42,000.

From a strong National Hunt family and a half-brother to dual Grade 2-winning hurdler Afsoun, the yearling colt was another consigned by Eric Lhermite's Haras de Grandcamp.

"He has a great page and is really athletic," the Devon trainer said. "I tried to get the Saint Des Saints colt but am really pleased with this one, as he is a good mover and has a lot of quality."
