HELENUS sired his first Group 1 winner on Saturday when the four-year-old gelding Cedarberg landed The BMW at Rosehill. Bred by Wyadup Valley Farm and raced by the stud's syndicate, Cedarberg is out of a mare by Irish 2,000 Guineas winner Spectrum.

In producing a Group 1 winner, 12-year-old Helenus has matched the achievements of his sire Helissio. The sole top-level winner by the 1996 Arc hero was Helenus himself.

Runner-up was Mourayan, the Aga Khan-bred Irish Derby third, a son of former champion juvenile Alhaarth. His half-brother,Muorilyan, was a successful Australian export, finishing third in the 2009 Melbourne Cup. Their dam, Mouramara, also produced high-class staying hurdler Mourad.
