Triple Group 1 winner Phoenix Reach was the best of four winners out of Carroll's Canyon

Death of Phoenix
Reach's dam aged 22

CARROLL'S Canyon, the dam of top-class globe-trotter Phoenix Reach, has died at Hayesfield Stud in County Meath at the age of 22.

The unraced daughter of Hatim produced four winners from 13 foals topped by Phoenix Reach, who retired to the National Stud inNewmarket as the winner of nearly £2 million following victories in the Grade 1 Canadian International, Group 1 Cathay Pacific Hong Kong Vase and Group 1 Dubai Sheema Classic. The son of Alhaarth is the sire of three winners from his first cropincluding triple scorer Reachforthebucks.

The Christine Kiernan-owned mare is also the granddam of the Listed-placed Fathsta while her final foal is three-year-old Peg Sayers, a sister to Phoenix Reach who ran once for Patrick Allen last year.

Bred by Mrs P Clarke in Ireland, Carroll's Canyon was out of the unplaced Silver Shark mare Tuna and a half-sister to 1989 Arc hero Carroll House.
