First winner for Azamour

CARAZAM last night became the first winner sired by Azamour, when he justified odds of 9-10 to land the 7f maiden at Tipperary on his debut.

The colt, trained by Tommy Stack, was bred by Yeomanstown Stud out of the Listed-placed Common Grounds mare Carallia, herself a half-sister to Caradak.

He could be a name for the notebook, as he managed to win going away by one and a half lengths, despite losing six lengths at the start after being slow out of the stalls.

A winner at two, three and four, and victorious in Group 1 races over 1m, 1m2f and 1m4f, Azamour stands at the Aga Khan's Gilltown Stud in Ireland.

The son of Night Shift and half-brother to last year's Group 1-placed juvenile Arazan has 98 first-crop two-year-olds to run for him this year.
